BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Workforce Commission advises anyone receiving emergency unemployment compensation (EUC) to continue their three weekly work searches and to participate in required re-employment activities in order to remain eligible for their federal benefits.
EUC is a temporary federal benefit job seekers can apply for after exhausting their state unemployment benefits. In Louisiana, there are approximately 11,450 people currently receiving EUC.
The original deadline to qualify for EUC was Dec. 29, 2012. But this week Congress retroactively extended the program, and President Obama is expected to sign it into law any day. Job seekers will qualify to apply for EUC until Dec. 28, 2013.
The LWC is advising those now receiving EUC to continue with their three required weekly work searches, to keep the supporting documentation and to avail themselves of all re-employment services when required.
Any EUC claim currently under review or on appeal will continue to be researched and considered, and qualified claims will be paid as they are approved.
