Half-day seminar to focus on labor laws and workers’ compensation updates

The Louisiana Workforce Commission is co-sponsoring a half-day seminar Thursday, Dec. 13, to equip employers with the latest information on legal developments affecting the workplace.

The seminar will be held from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Lafayette, 2032 Evangeline Thruway. There will be presentations by Rob Roux, LWC staff attorney and Carey R. Holliday, special assistant to the director of the LWC’s Office of Workers’ Compensation. Other sponsors include the Lafayette Economic Development Authority and the Lafayette Regional Business Advisory Committee.

Topics to be covered include seven new state laws affecting employers, updates on employment and labor law, federal employment law trends such as the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, Family Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, misclassification of workers, social media and the law, along with recent changes regarding Louisiana workers’ compensation laws. Curt Eysink, LWC executive director will serve as the luncheon keynote speaker.

Human resource professionals and small business owners are encouraged to attend. The cost of the seminar is $50, which also includes a continental breakfast and lunch. Anyone interested should register early as seating is limited.
