Louisiana Employment and Wages Annual 2011 Data Released

BATON ROUGE— Data on Louisiana’s employment and wages for the year 2011 are now available on the Louisiana Workforce Commission’s website, www.laworks.net.

The data covers employment and total wages by North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) sectors and sub-sectors for the state and by NAICS sectors for all parishes. The information comes from quarterly tax reports submitted by all employers subject to the Louisiana Employment Security Law and from supplemental reports giving parish data submitted by employers with multiple locations. Information is available at the statewide, regional, metropolitan statistical, and parish levels.

Covered employers are those who pay unemployment insurance taxes and who count filled jobs – whether full-time or part-time, temporary or permanent – by place of work.

According to the data, Louisiana’s average covered employment in 2011 totaled 1,848,435, an increase of 0.8 percent compared to 1,834,338 in 2010. Average employment increased in 33 of the 64 parishes in 2011. The highest average weekly wage for all industries was reported in St. Charles parish at $1,127, followed by Plaquemines parish at $1,105 a week.

The report also shows that:

• Total wages for 2011 showed an increase of 3.0 percent from 2010.

• The 2011 average weekly wage for all industries was $815.

• Average reporting units decreased by 3,375 to 125,475 in 2011.
