Unemployment Insurance Claims Report October 5, 2012

BATON ROUGE – Initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending Sept. 29, 2012, decreased to 2,831 from the previous week’s total of 3,294. Initial claims were below the comparable week ending Oct. 1, 2011, figure of 3,236.

The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 5,005 from the previous week’s average of 4,884.

Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending Sept. 29, 2012, decreased to 31,883 from the previous week’s total of 32,768. Continued weeks claimed were below the comparable week ending Oct. 1, 2011, figure of 42,255.

The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed increased to 32,501 from the previous week’s average of 32,409.
