Unemployment Insurance Claims Report June 15, 2012

BATON ROUGE - Initial claims for unemployment insurance for the week ending June 9, 2012, increased to 4,272 from the previous week’s total of 4,177. Initial claims were below the comparable week ending June 11, 2011, figure of 4,445.

The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 4,070 from the previous week’s average of 3,851.

Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending June 9, 2012, increased to 33,841 from the previous week’s total of 32,533. The largest over-the-week increases in continued claims were in health care and social assistance and other services (except public administration) industries. Continued weeks claimed were below the comparable week ending June 11, 2011, figure of 46,927.

The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed increased to 32,573 from the previous week’s average of 32,035.
