Job Fair to Offer Shreveport Area Veterans Employment Opportunities
More than 100 employers looking to hire, expected for annual event

Local veterans and active duty military looking for employment opportunities are encouraged to participate in the 7th Annual Northwest Louisiana Veterans’ Job & Resource Fair.

The fair will take place Thursday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bossier Civic Center, 620 Benton Road, Bossier City. Veterans should bring copies of their résumé and be prepared to interview.

More than 100 employers with employment opportunities are expected to be on hand. Participating employers include Halliburton, Federal Express Ground, Weyerhaeuser Company, Frito-Lay, Cooper Tire & Rubber Company, Horseshoe Casino & Hotel, Kentwood Springs, Harrah’s Louisiana Downs, Chesapeake Energy, Bossier City Fire Department, Deltic Timber Corporation, AAR Aircraft Services plus many other employers that represent a variety of industries.

To help get veterans back into the workforce, federal tax credits are available to employers who hire unemployed veterans and also those with service-connected disabilities. The Veterans Opportunity to Work Act allows employers to get tax credits of up to $9,600 for hiring veterans. Veterans bring valuable experience and leadership skills, and often make strong job candidates.

Government agencies and community organizations with resource information are also set to take part.

The event, sponsored by the Louisiana Workforce Commission, Coordinating and Development Corporation, City of Bossier and the City of Shreveport, is being offered at no cost to veterans, employers and participating groups.
