Unemployment Insurance Claims Report May 11, 2012

BATON ROUGE - Initial claims for unemployment insurance for the week ending May 5, 2012, decreased to 3,124 from the previous week’s total of 3,303. Initial claims were below the comparable week ending May 7, 2011, figure of 4,033.

The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 3,277 from the previous week’s average of 3,282.

Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending May 5, 2012, decreased to 32,297 from the previous week’s total of 32,312. This is the lowest level of continued claims since Dec. 27, 2008 with 32,007. Continued weeks claimed were below the comparable week ending May 7, 2011, figure of 43,524.

The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed decreased to 32,926 from the previous week’s average of 33,143.

All regular unemployment insurance claimants in Louisiana who have received at least one check during the reference month, decreased by 1,322 from 34,270 in March 2012 to 32,948 in April 2012. This is the lowest monthly level of individuals who have received at least one unemployment check since December 2008 with 31,707 claimants.
