BATON ROUGE - Initial claims for unemployment insurance for the week ending April 21, 2012, decreased to 3,076 from the previous week’s total of 3,606. Initial claims were below the comparable week ending April 23, 2011, figure of 3,388.
The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 3,192 from the previous week’s average of 3,141.
Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending April 21, 2012, decreased to 33,033 from the previous week’s total of 34,060. This is the lowest level of continued claims since Dec. 27, 2008 with 32,007. Continued weeks claimed were below the comparable week ending April 23, 2011, figure of 43,635.
The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed decreased to 33,616 from the previous week’s average of 34,066.
