The Louisiana Workforce Commission is partnering with the Lafourche Chamber of Commerce to sponsor an Employer Seminar Wednesday, March 28, that will focus on workers’ compensation and unemployment.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the South Lafourche Library, 16241 East Main St. in Cutoff.
There will be presentations by Peter Wright, general counsel for LWC, and David Duhon, district director for the U.S. Department of Labor.
Topics to be covered include an overview of longshore and harbor workers’ compensation and the federal workers’ compensation program, along with an overview of Louisiana’s unemployment compensation systems, funding of benefits and administrative expenses, how the benefits system works, the claims process, eligibility for benefits, appeal rights and practical tips on how employers can effectively navigate the unemployment system.
A $10 registration fee is payable to the Lafourche Chamber and will cover lunch. Seating is limited and is on a first-come basis.
