BATON ROUGE - Initial claims for unemployment insurance for the week ending Oct. 29, 2011, increased to 3,435 from the previous week’s total of 3,231. Initial claims were below the comparable week ending Oct. 30, 2010, figure of 3,596.
The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 3,454 from the previous week’s average of 3,404.
Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending Oct. 29, 2011, decreased to 40,503 from the previous week’s total of 41,225. Continued weeks claimed were below the comparable week ending Oct. 30, 2010, figure of 48,599.
The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed decreased to 41,053 from the previous week’s average of 41,491.
All regular unemployment insurance claimants in Louisiana who have received at least one check, during the reference month of Oct. 2011, decreased by 980 from 39,240 in Sept. 2011 to 38,260 in Oct. 2011.
