Unemployment Insurance Claims Report Sept. 30, 2011

BATON ROUGE - Initial claims for unemployment insurance for the week ending Sept. 24, 2011, decreased to 3,221 from the previous week’s total of 3,567. Initial claims were below the comparable week ending Sept. 25, 2010, figure of 3,680.

The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 3,481 from the previous week’s average of 3,587.

Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending Sept. 24, 2011, decreased to 42,609 from the previous week’s total of 44,259. Continued weeks claimed were below the comparable week ending Sept. 25, 2010, figure of 50,940.

The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed decreased to 43,992 from the previous week’s average of 44,706.
