Premier Technical Plastics Workers in Minden Eligible to Apply for Trade Adjustment Assistance

MINDEN – Premier Technical Plastics employees in Minden who were affected by layoffs are now eligible to apply for additional training and re-employment services. This includes on-site leased workers from Manpower.

A petition filed with the U.S. Department of Labor requesting Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) was approved when it was determined that imports of articles like or directly competitive with the articles produced by its workers had increased, the sales and production of those articles had decreased absolutely, a significant number of employees had been separated from their jobs, and the increase in imports was an important contributing factor to those separations.

The LWC’s Trade Adjustment Assistance unit will conduct a trade orientation session on Tuesday, March 29, from 10 a.m. - noon at the Chamber of Commerce, 110 Sibley Road in Minden. The session will inform employees about the full array of TAA services available to them including training programs, job search and relocation allowances, Trade Readjustment Allowance (TRA) and health coverage tax credits.

TAA services are offered at no cost to the employer or the participating employees.

Additional information about Trade Adjustment Assistance is available at the Louisiana Workforce Commission Web site at http://www.laworks.net/FAQs/FAQ_NAFTA_TAA.asp.
