ALEXANDRIA – StarTek USA, Inc. employees in Alexandria who were affected by layoffs in late January are now eligible to apply for additional training and re-employment services.
A petition filed with the U.S. Department of Labor requesting Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) was approved when it was determined that the company had shifted to a foreign country the production of articles like or directly competitive with the articles produced by its workers, a significant number of employees had been separated from their jobs, and the shift in production was an important contributing factor to those separations.
The LWC’s Trade Adjustment Assistance unit will conduct trade orientation sessions on Monday, March 7, at the Louisiana Technical College (LTC), 4311 S. MacArthur Drive, Alexandria. The sessions will inform employees about the full array of TAA services available to them including training programs, job search and relocation allowances, Trade Readjustment Allowance (TRA) and health coverage tax credits.
Four sessions will be held:
Employees whose last name begins with A - E should attend from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Employees whose last name begins with F - K should attend from noon - 1:30 p.m.
Employees whose last name begins with L - R should attend from 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
