Unemployment Insurance Claims Report October 22, 2010

BATON ROUGE - Initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) for the week ending October 16, 2010, decreased to 3,794 from the previous week’s total of 3,981. Initial claims were below the comparable week ending October 17, 2009, figure of 4,771.

The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 3,799 from the previous week’s average of 3,855.

Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending October 16, 2010, increased to 49,229 from the previous week’s total of 49,169. Continued weeks claimed were below the comparable week ending October 17, 2009, figure of 60,575.

The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed decreased to 49,940 from the previous week’s average of 50,637.
