Unemployment Insurance Claims Report June 11, 2010

BATON ROUGE - Initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) for the week ending June 5, 2010, increased to 5,188 from the previous week’s total of 5,166. The largest over-the-week increase in initial claims was in the health care and social assistance industry as part of the usual summer seasonal pattern. Initial claims were below the comparable week ending June 6, 2009, figure of 5,978.

The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 4,896 from the previous week’s average of 4,719.

Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending June 5, 2010, increased to 55,812 from the previous week’s total of 55,207. Continued weeks claimed were above the comparable week ending June 6, 2009, figure of 54,859.

The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed decreased to 55,452 from the previous week’s average of 55,643.
